Glass Block Basement Window System in Queens and Long Island, NY
A basement window is typically made of wood, steel or vinyl with a thin pane of glass. Over time wood has a tendency to rot, steel has a tendency to rust and vinyl has a tendency to degrade, all of which eventually require maintenance or replacement. And, the pane of glass offers little security against a swift kick of a shoe and entrance of an unwanted intruder.
In addition, a function of a basement window is to provide an air exchange and fresh air into the confines of a basement. Unfortunately, people typically open basement windows rarely, if ever, because of the effort required. And, if they did, for security reasons they would not want to leave them open long enough to serve this purpose because the windows would most likely be left unattended.
Boccia Inc. offers installation of ventilated glass block basement window that resolves all of the typical problems of a standard basement window. The window is constructed with thick glass blocks which never rot, rust or degrade and never need any kind of maintenance. It is resilient enough to resist the swiftest blow of a shoe from an unwanted intruder, giving piece of mind that is priceless. In fact, the window is a masonry wall which requires no less of an effort to penetrate.
The Boccia Inc. basement window comes with a small operable screened vent that can be opened and remain open as desired without a shred of security concern. This gives it more than ample time to let in the much desired and required air exchange and fresh air to greatly improve the basement environment and make it more livable.
High Efficiency Basement Dehumidifiers
Eliminating water seepage in basements is the most effective way to create a healthy, dry basement in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens, but it doesn’t end there. High humidity levels can also plague basement environments. Relative humidity levels over 60 percent can lead to mold growth. That’s why controlling the level of humidity is so important. In our New York climate, if your basement is not properly ventilated, a dehumidifier is necessary to prevent mold growth.
There are multiple potential sources of increased humidity in basements, some of which are naturally occurring. Additionally, basements sometimes have stagnant air due to a lack of air exchange and poor ventilation. Therefore, once the humidity is introduced into the basement environment, it stays there. That’s why the ideal approach to dealing with excessive humidity is to remove it.
The best way to control humidity in a basement is to install a quality, high-performance dehumidifier. It captures moisture and transforms it into water. A dehumidifier then easily removes the water, resulting in lower humidity levels and a drier environment.
How A Room Dehumidifier Works
Boccia Inc. offers high-efficiency dehumidifiers, which remove up to 70 pints of moisture from the air in a 24-hour period. It is ENERGY STAR certified, which means it uses less energy than a non-accredited unit and meets strict energy efficiency guidelines.
Some of its other features include:
- Electronic controls and LED display, offering easy operation and showing current and target conditions
- Two-speed fan to enable standard or turbo operation, which will quickly get rid of excess moisture
- Filter indicator light to show when the filter needs cleaning
- Washable filters for easy maintenance and cost savings
- Low temperature operation down to 41 degrees Fahrenheit
- Auto defrost to remove frost accumulation on the evaporator coils
Automatically Control Basement Humidity
When professionally installed by Boccia Inc. in conjunction with a sub-floor drainage system, the dehumidifier will automatically drain, eliminating the need to periodically empty it.
When you turn it on, set the desired levels on the easy-to-use display and let it automatically control the basement humidity. This will allow you to provide added protection and comfort to anyone using the basement.
Automatic Sump Pumps And Battery Powered Back Up Pump Systems
Like the human body, the pump is the heart of the drainage system. That is why Boccia Inc. tested all the leading brands to determine which would pass their rigorous standards. With the primary objective of utilizing only the best materials available on the market.
Primary pumps feature:
- Fully automatic operation
- Cast iron construction
- Energy efficient motors
- Thermal protection
- Stainless steel shaft and fasteners
- Sealed ball bearings
- Smart pump controllers available
When additional assurance is desired for protection during power outages, heavy duty battery powered backup pump systems are available in a single battery configuration or double battery high amperage recharge system for extended operation.
Back up pumps feature:
- Works off single or dual 12V battery in the event of power failure or main sump pump failure
- Fully automatic operation
- Alarm system to alert you of main pump failure or power failure
- Multi staged battery charging system
- Sealed maintenance free deep cycle batteries
Protect yourself from needless flooding in the event of power failure or main pump malfunction.

Boccia Inc. BASEMENT EMERGENCY ESCAPE WINDOWS
Building Code (IRC Section R310.1) mandates “basements with habitable space and every sleeping room shall have at least one openable emergency escape and rescue window.”
Hollow Kick Molding / Floor Drainage Molding
A floating slab is an integral part of a subfloor drainage system, or French drain system. These floating slabs form when a basement floor slab doesn’t adjoin the foundation wall and a gap opens. This gap serves a number of functions to facilitate the subfloor drainage system, allowing it to properly do its job. Before the Hollow Kick Molding was invented, floating slabs were created by installing a temporary form against the interior side of the foundation wall.
After we remove and cure the floor slab, we take out the form. This creates a gap. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very attractive and just looked like someone ran out of cement. Additionally, it was prone to clogging when debris fell in.
The Introduction of Hollow Kick Molding
Boccia Inc. constantly strives for the best materials and methods for their Nassau, Suffolk and Queens customers. After investing years in product development, they invented, patented and produced the Hollow Kick Molding in the early 1980s. This was the first product specifically developed and designed to create the floating slab detail.
The Hollow Kick Molding is a linear floor drainage molding. We install it at the cove area where the basement floor abuts the interior side of the foundation wall. It directs water through the floor and into the drain tile pipe below, eliminating the possibility of water accumulation. A Hollow Kick Molding conceals and protects the drainage opening with an attractive cove plate molding. Not to mention, it’s the most effective, affordable method for eliminating wet basements.
After introducing it in their own work, Boccia saw tremendous interest from contractors, remodelers, developers, plumbers and waterproofers throughout the nation. Deciding to keep it proprietary in their local New York market, Boccia distributed everywhere, from Seattle to Atlanta.
Hollow Kick Molding Drainage Characteristics
The Hollow Kick Molding has successfully been installed since the 1980s. Following in Boccia’s tradition of innovation, they have recently introduced the next generation of Hollow Kick Molding with a built-in vapor retarder to reduce pollutants that may permeate the floor. This new design will still provide the same drainage characteristics that the industry has come to rely on, with the added protection of a sealed floor.
Hollow Kick Molding
is a linear through floor drainage molding installed at the Cove Area where the basement floor slab abuts the interior side of the foundation wall, creating a floating slab. It directs water through the floor and into the drain tile pipe eliminating the possibility of water accumulating on the floor. It also ensures proper air displacement, which will free the water flow through the sub slab piping. It also conceals and protects the drainage opening with an attractive cove plate molding.
The Latest in Water Drainage Engineering
This state-of-the-art drainage system removes water at an elevation below the floor and foundation, so the basement does not become submersed in water and hydrostatic pressure is reduced.
Why use Hollow Kick Molding?
The HOLLOW KICK MOLDING drainage system is by far the most efficient, affordable way to prevent a wet basement from ever occurring, or to assure that previously wet basements keep dry for good. With its impressive 8.5 gallons per. ft., per minute of through floor drainage, its effectiveness is unsurpassed. It installs quickly and easily thereby adding to your home or building usable space for living, working and storage. A properly installed HOLLOW KICK MOLDING drainage system will reduce the possibility of callbacks and complaints from dissatisfied customers.
